Role of Hotels in India's fight against COVID

From offering solace for displaced travelers to outsourcing for COVID-induced chaos, hotels intend to prevail these seemingly never-ending exacerbated situation.

With entire concept of hospitality deeply challenged by the pandemic, hotels assist in providing valuable yet last-minute resources to government as well as local authorities on the forefront. Transforming luxurious suites to life supporting latitudes for general public, hotels have only augmented the support since the outbreak of coronavirus. We can only assure the guaranteed success over Covid-19 by joining forces and working as one community.

Utilizing its rich skill in food and hospitality benefits, the critical drive of ITC Hotels has been food dissemination across urban communities dependent on the prerequisites of the neighborhood. Food had been catered and delivered to doctors working in Kasturba Hospital, Mumbai by ITC Grand. With already supplying 1000 meals a day, Fortune Hotel in Lucknow extends to extend the reach of provision in Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad, ITC Hotels added.

Radisson Hotel Group South Asia MD and Vice President (operations) Zubin Saxena assured outsourcing of food supplies and funding to different state relief funds and Prime Minister’s relief fund.

The TATA Group have taken their contribution an extra mile by not only funding an estimation of 1500 crores for Covid-19 relief measures but also showcased their goodwill for community by converting luxurious stays at The Taj Hotels (IHCL) as COVID health care centers. Taj Mahal Palace, Taj Lands End, Taj Santacruz, The President, Ginger MIDC Andheri, Ginger Madgaon and Ginger Noida City Center have offered their rooms for setting up treatment facilities. Not only conforming to indirect welfare, IHCL by Tata Group volunteered to offer meals to migrant workers profusely hit by pandemic.

With their newly launched and pandemic induced Global Cleanliness Council for renewed standards of hospitality, Marriot International along with its 7300 hotels all across the globe are dispatching endeavors to help communities and medical teams where they work during the COVID-19 pandemic. JW Marriott Sahar Mumbai and Renaissance Powai is offering 300 rooms to the BMC for non-COVID segregation travelers at profoundly limited rates. JW Marriott Aerocity, New Delhi along with Westin Gurgaon have been providing surplus supplies of 5000 packaged meals and volunteered 500+ boxes of food to surrounding NPOs in Haryana respectively. JW Marriott Mussoorie, located amidst the astounding serene of hills, further assisted in offering essentials for locals in the region via authorities and MLA Ganesh Joshi. From providing masks made out of sustainable linen to feeding 150 unprivileged families, JW Marriott Jodhpur has proved to be a valuable asset during such harsh times

'THE Park Heart Of Hope' initiative by The Park Hotels was seen joining hands with communities nearby in order to provide the neighbor services in ongoing crisis. Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels are taking a huge number of drives to serve medical care suppliers and local area everywhere in the midst of the COVID flare-up in the country.

Leela Dharma, a welfare visionary launched by The Leela Group, aims at serving the community in the crucial hours of pandemic. The Leela Palace New Delhi in collaboration with local authorities is providing ‘care packages’ (food supplies and personal hygiene products) to 200 families every week.

“The Leela brand is honored to provide assistance to those unfavorably influenced by the COVID-19 emergency. Our inns have worked together with neighborhood specialists to give 'care bundles' to under-resourced families”, as commented by Spokesperson of Leela to Economic Times.

These are a few of countless hotels, which came forward and helped India and continue to do so. Now that hotels have made themselves conceivable in every obvious sense during pandemic, hotels suffer alongside as entire hospitality witnesses a sink in occupancy and revenues. Employment has been suffering profusely in the hotel industry.

With doors of luxury stays wide open and suites made medically hospitable, we need to appreciate the wide scale range of initiatives taken by hotels across India for coming forth and expanding beyond their horizons to provide hospitality beyond business, to humankind.
